Hub firmware recovery

The COBI.Bike system can be upgraded by updating the firmware on the Hub and in the Rear Light. In some some rare situations, this firmware may become corrupt. This guide will help you recover the hub to the latest version of firmware available for your system.

Diagnosis Steps

If the firmware on your hub has become corrupted:

Hub Components:

Hub Components

③ Status LED (dark blue steady blinking)

Hub button (hub does not respond when pressed)

If the LED is completely dark and the hub does not respond when the hub button is pressed, please see the Hub power failure troubleshooting guide.

Clean Slate Recovery Steps

The following steps are designed to allow you to recover your hub firmware in all known situations.  However, they will result in the loss of any settings information stored locally in the COBI.Bike app.  You will need to re-enter these settings again, once the hub firmware has been successfully recovered.  You may want to try the Alternative Recovery Steps below first if you want to avoid losing these settings.

  1. Make sure that the hub has sufficient power to complete a firmware update, if in doubt, see the Hub power failure troubleshooting guide
  2. Delete the COBI.Bike app
  3. Remove all COBI.Bike devices listed in the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device
  4. Restart your phone
  5. Download the latest version of the COBI.Bike app from the app store
  6. Start the app, then follow the on-screen instructions in the guided setup

Alternative Recovery Steps

The alternative recovery steps are designed for users who want to retain settings they have saved locally in the COBI.Bike app.  In most instances this process will be equally as effective as the steps described above. However, if you are still unable to recover your firmware using the Alternative Recovery Steps, please try the Clean Slate Recovery Steps as a last resort.

  1. Make sure that the hub has sufficient power to complete a firmware update, if in doubt, see the Hub power failure troubleshooting guide
  2. Kill the COBI.Bike app
  3. Remove all COBI.Bike devices listed in the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device
  4. Restart your phone
  5. Start the app
  6. Navigate to Firmware und under the Settings  menu (My Bike > Hub Information > Firmware)
  7. Initiate a Firmware update
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions in the guided setup

Still not working?

If you are unable to complete a Clean Slate Recovery but are still encountering the same symptoms described in the Diagnosis above, it is likely that the hub is running out of power part of the way through the update process. Please check the power failure troubleshooting guide.

As a last resort, you may want to try the Clean Slate Recovery after restarting your phone, or using a different device having switched off Bluetooth on your usual phone.

If all else fails, please contact COBI.Bike support, quoting the serial number on the hub and details of where and when you bought it.
